Sean’s a wreck. Please help him recover.
Sean Lynch of Gloucester was thrown from his car in an accident on Sept. 21st, sustaining two severe traumatic injuries to his brain, along with broken ribs and a broken hand.
I’m Ricky Sanders, and I’ve known Sean for over 30 years. He grew up with my children and was in and out of our house next door for his entire childhood. As an adult, he’s helped us with all kinds of projects without asking for anything, even helping build my wife’s “she-shed.” And it has always been with a smile on his face.
The car Sean was driving rolled a great distance, and he was thrown even farther, but because this is Sean and there’s always some good news under a black cloud, he landed on soft ground and has lived to tell the tale. He was in an induced coma and spent five days in the ICU, and his family didn’t know because the police department never notified them. In the hospital, he was known only as Patient Z as his family spent days trying to find him. He finally regained consciousness enough to ask for his mother. He’s in Norfolk General Hospital at the beginning of what will be a long, difficult road to recovery.
The bleeding has stopped in the frontal lobe of Sean’s brain (subarachnoid hemorrhage) and at the base of his skull (intraventricular hemorrhage), but he has a blood clot in his lung. He faces extensive rehabilitation, during which he’ll have to relearn the very basics of life, from speaking clearly to walking to dressing himself.
Sean doesn’t have medical insurance and he’ll be out of work for an extended period of time. Any monies received will go to costs associated with his hospitalization, rehabilitation, and recovery. The fund will be administered by his mother and sister.
We hope that Sheltering Arms Rehabilitation Center, a Richmond facility that specializes in caring for people with brain injuries, will accept Sean.
Please give whatever you can to help this young man recover. Thanks so much for taking the time to read Sean’s story, warm thoughts and Prayers.
