On Friday, November 6, 2020, a loving son, brother, cousin, and friend to so many, Sean Anthony Kelly, passed away unexpectedly at the age of 29. This has crushed all of us who love him.
Sean was born on April 28, 1991 to Judith and Maurice Kelly in the Bronx, New York. Sean was raised in Mamaroneck, New York with his older sister, Danielle, and his younger brother, Tommy. Sean graduated from Mamaroneck High School in 2009, and after that, he attended Hartford College for two years.
I am Raymond Gualano and I met Sean when we were in the 2nd grade, and we instantly became best friends. We were on the same little league baseball teams, Pop Warner football teams, and we were pretty much inseparable. We couldn’t have been any closer if we were brothers. On the weekends, we were always together and we would even attend many sporting events with our dads.
During elementary school, we used to hang out almost every weekend at his dad’s home in City Island, Bronx, New York where we would play stickball, manhunt, and explore City Island without a care in the world. Unfortunately, on September 11, 2001 Sean lost his father to the attacks on the World Trade Center. We continued to stay close, and he tried his best to make his father proud as he coped with this inconceivable loss.
Sean was a very popular kid in town because of his big heart and his selflessness. He was someone who would do anything to make another person happy regardless of how he was feeling. Once we got to Hommocks Middle School, kids from all over the school flocked to Sean because of his genuine fun loving nature. If you knew Sean, you know exactly what I am talking about. He could light up a room, just by entering it. His smile and laughter were infectious and he had a great sense of humor.
After his father passed, Sean moved back with his mother in Larchmont and we spent more time together than ever. In high school Sean had great pride in being from Mamaroneck and being a Tiger in the football program he loved so much. Sean played football all four years in high school. He was a two year starter on varsity and became one of the team captains in his senior year. He fit the mold perfectly. Whenever he saw a teammate who was feeling down or having a hard time, he would always try to pick up their spirits by cracking jokes to lighten the mood regardless of what he, himself, was going through.
Sean’s short life was full of struggles. He faced another heartbreaking loss when his mother passed away from cancer in 2013. Sean tried his best to continue to live his life although the loss of both of his parents weighed very heavily on him. Sean never asked for help and always kept a smile on his face.
Since Sean’s passing was so sudden and unexpected, his family was not prepared for the expenses of a funeral. This wonderful young man, who is loved by so many, deserves a proper memorial and burial and that’s what we are hoping to accomplish with this GoFundMe. In addition to a memorial and a burial, this GoFundMe will also cover a headstone for the plot where Sean will be buried with his beloved mother. The services will be provided by Coxe and Graziano Funeral Home in Mamaroneck, NY. Any additional money received above the amount of the cost of the services, memorial, and burial will be distributed as follows according to the request of Sean's family: A Donation in Sean's name will be made to the Bereavement Center of Westchester and the remaining funds will be put towards grief counseling for Sean's siblings. Any donation, no matter how small, would be greatly appreciated. Thank you and God Bless.
