Sean Hammond's Mountain Bike DREAM

Donation protected

I am reaching out to you to introduce you to Sean, a remarkable individual whose journey of recovery, perseverance, and discovery has touched many lives, including mine. I met Sean 9 months ago while volunteering at Bridge House’s Community Table Kitchen and now I want to help Sean with a big dream: to own a mountain bike.

A little more about Sean and his journey. In 2013, while living homeless by Boulder Creek, Sean joined Boulder’s Bridge House as a trainee in the “Ready to Work” Program. Through hard work and determination, he found his place within the organization, initially working on the outdoor crew cleaning up after the flood and later in the Community Table Kitchen, where he learned advanced cooking skills under the guidance of Chef John Trejo. He now serves as Kitchen Supervisor.

After seven years of dedication to Bridge House, Sean embarked on a new chapter of self-discovery. He embraced sobriety, quit smoking, and confronted his trauma head-on. This journey led him to discover the ancient healing powers of Qigong and a new perspective on facing chronic pain and past trauma. Sean's path then intersected with The Phoenix, a nonprofit that supports individuals in recovery through an active and sober lifestyle.

Through The Phoenix Sean found mountain biking—a childhood passion that was lost in the years of addiction and pain. With the support of Soha Kushitama and her organization Freedom to Fly Foundation, Sean not only conquered his fears but also found profound joy and courage on the trails. As Sean puts it, "Enjoying the struggle of the steep climb, the triumph of overcoming a boulder in my path, and the sheer joy of the downhill has shown me that anything is possible in this life. Not only that, but to see how this courage and joy that I experience on the mountain on a bike designed for the mountain, trickles out into my daily life. I truly believe this is a path for me to be of more benefit to the world."

I am writing to you today to ask for your support in helping Sean achieve his next milestone—a personal mountain bike. While Sean has stable, meaningful employment now, owning a top-of-the-line bike has not even remotely been a possibility considering his budget. We would like to help him experience something truly extraordinary and meaningful which is currently beyond his reach. Such a substantial gift would go a long way toward his continued recovery and allow him to thrive into the future.

You can donate directly through Sean’s GoFundMe page, and you can also help by sharing this letter with your network. Thank you for taking the time to read Sean's story. Your generosity will make a meaningful difference in his journey.

With gratitude,

Alex Besser (on behalf of Sean Hammond)
