Support My Mission to Empower the Exceptionality Community
As a person with cerebral palsy and many years advocating for people with exceptionalities, I’ve seen firsthand how society often dismisses their potential. Many are denied opportunities and classified in ways that stifle their growth, creating dependency instead of independence. This is not just morally unacceptable—it holds society back from innovation and progress. When my wheelchair got mislaid, I crawled through the streets.
My research challenges these norms. By exploring how nondemocratic societies like Taiwan and apartheid South Africa engaged with the exceptionality community, I’ve uncovered surprising insights. These nations, despite their flaws, prioritized accessibility and genuine inclusion, consulting directly with the communities they aimed to serve. My work highlights how these approaches can inform global policies to create more inclusive and thriving societies.
Now, I need your help to complete this vital research. I’ve traveled extensively, gathering data from South Africa, Australia, and the U.S. But key documents are located in one South African city, while interviews with 13 political leaders are required in another. As someone with cerebral palsy, I also need two assistants to make my travel and research possible.
I’ve raised $1,500 toward my $10,000 goal, but I still need $8,500 to finish. Completing this dissertation is not just a personal milestone—it’s a step toward improving opportunities for the exceptionality community worldwide.
Your support, no matter the amount, will make a difference. Together, we can replace outdated perceptions with true inclusion, unlocking the potential of millions.
Thank you for joining me in this mission.
