What started as a series of slightly unhinged pandemic texts between two Class of ’87 high school friends from Western Pennsylvania - then living on opposite sides of the globe—somehow turned into a Road & Track feature. And now… well, now it’s spiraled into something even wilder: a full-blown, questionable-life-choices-style quest.
The mission?
- Unearth a forgotten 1980s American Motors relic—something unloved, unsellable, and ideally covered in bird droppings.
- Resurrect it from the depths of mechanical purgatory using only sheer willpower, YouTube tutorials, whatever change we found under the seats, and a disturbingly large number of zip ties.
- Drive it ocean-to-ocean across the United States along the skeletal remains of the legendary Route 66.
- Raise money for causes that matter while we try not to explode the radiator in the Mojave.
And so we present to you: The Concord Panamericana and its inaugural crusade—
The AMC to Shining Sea Charity Rally 2025
May 10th - 15th from Virginia Beach to San Diego Hotel Coronado
One car. Two friends. Zero mechanical qualifications.
Sean and Joe (a.k.a. Patrick) are dedicating this single car rally to raise money to support meaningful causes. 100% of donated funds, net GoFundMe transaction fees, will be used only for charitable donations, equally distributed among the following four organizations:
- The Alzheimer's Association is a voluntary health organization that leads the fight to end Alzheimer's and other dementias. It focuses on accelerating research, driving risk reduction and early detection, maximizing quality care and support, and advocating for change.
- The American Heart Association is a nonprofit organization fighting heart disease and stroke. It funds research, promotes public health policies, and provides resources and information to prevent and treat these diseases.
- Best Buddies International is a dynamic and growing organization that works to enhance the lives of people with intellectual and developmental disabilities.
- Cat Cove improves the lives of community cats (homeless cats) by providing adoption, fostering resources, and educating the public on how to care for their pets and community cats.
Will it make it? I mean…maybe? (This is the first question everyone asks, by the way)
