The Sea Lion Techs are a Seaford based FIRST Tech Challenge Robotics team. The team is made up of students ranging from 12 to 17 years of age with an interest in pursuing a STEM major in college. This is our second year having completed a tremendously successful rookie season. We currently have 12 members, with a few openings for new members. If interested please send an email to the gofundme site.
In our rookie year we reached the finals in all three of our qualifying events but fell just short of advancing to the world finals. We had two members reach the semi-finals for the Dean's award with one advancing to the quarter-finals. Unfortunately, the season was cut short due to Covid and the world finals were not held.
This year has been particularly challenging. Most schools have not funded their robot teams as after school activities have been cancelled or delayed. Our very generous corporate sponsors are facing very difficult financial times with some having to close and furlough workers.
We feel that it is important to keep the team operating as there are very few clubs for the students to pursue their interests. We set up tables outside for our meetings to provide enough room for social distancing and take the health of the students and mentors very seriously. We expect that many students will be requesting to join our team. With a limit of 15 members to a team, we might need to form a second team to accommodate all of the interest.
On behalf of the team members and Coach and Mentors, I thank you for your tax deductible donation.
