In these unprecedented times, it is vital that we all remain committed to helping each other, being kind, and providing assistance wherever and whenever we can. We will be more dependent on each other than ever before.
Like everyone, we are deeply concerned for the health and well-being of all people, and particularly the healthcare workers and providers who are on the front lines of this fight. We have already begun to see the devastating effects across all elements of society, including our own music industry – and indeed our own musicians right here in the New Hampshire seacoast.
The greater Portsmouth area has long had a reputation as a thriving, creatively brilliant musical community, and that community is now under assault. With venues temporarily closing and opportunities to earn income evaporating, the working musicians of our beloved home need help.
This fund is specifically designated for those musicians who have lost gigs, lost income, and lost opportunities, many of which will never be regained.
A board of local musicians invited by PARMA will distribute the funds. To quote another very worthy fundraiser, the Emergency Relief Fund for Restaurant Workers:
“We will start with those in most critical need first. This fund will serve first those households that already exist at or below 150% of the 2020 Federal Poverty Guidelines. If funds allow, we will increase this to allow funds to be released to those households at or below 200% of FPG, and so on.”

Music will help us get through the challenging times ahead, and we need to assist those who have brought such joy to our lives for so long and who now face a problem like no other. You clapped for them in the clubs, you’ve cheered for them in the theaters, and you’ve danced with them in the halls, and now they need your help.
