Seabird is a 10-minute coming-of-age short film. This short film centres on women, as well as creating a sense of community with cross-generational relationships.

Logline

Lola, a woman in her early 20s, feels lost and purposeless at her supermarket

job. She surprises her grandmother with an impromptu visit to her

Cornish cottage. She arrives as her grandmother is preparing for ‘Equinox’ festivities; in helping her with this, she reconnects with her childhood self and regains a sense of purpose.

Our story: This film is being created by Falmouth University students. All head of department roles are filled by third-year film students, so we are familiar with the filmmaking process and have specialised in our individual roles for some time now.

Director's statement: I am passionate about portraying female lead stories that emphasise community and the importance of relationships and womanhood. At a time when we are overwhelmed with negative media, I believe it's key to bring forward warm, comforting films with positive narratives that encourage audiences to strive for a life that fulfils them.

Themes: growth, self-discovery, relief, melancholia, warmth and childhood

Film risks: All productions come with risks, and as supporters of our GoFundMe, we want you to be aware of this. For Seabird, our main risks are beach scenes and working with child actors; however, our producer, Bel, is an experienced producer with a wide variety of previous film work and is therefore fully prepared to mitigate these risks. Finally, a main risk is not reaching our production budget, so all support is greatly appreciated so our film has the best possible outcome.
