Hello! We are the U16 Sea to Sky Wild (SVC Wild) volleyball team and we have the opportunity to go to Nationals in Calgary this season. Our team has hit the ground running with fundraising efforts already in full swing. Our girls are raising funds through bake sales, facilitating volleyball clinics for our local youth, hosting BBQ's and Krispy Kreme sales outside our local grocery stores, selling local beef and pork, and even hosting pony parties! We have a lot of costs to cover; travel, accommodation, tournament fees, team meals, and transportation once in Calgary. Our goal is to reduce the financial burden so every athlete can attend and no one is left behind.
If you are able to donate, share our page, or spread the word, we would be incredibly grateful. Every contribution, big or small helps bring these athletes one step closer to Nationals.
Example of where your contribution will go:
-$10 transportation costs within Calgary
-$20 helps cover team meals
-$50 contributes towards travel expenses
-$75 helps pay tournament fees
Any business wishing to be acknowledged on our tournament warm up shirts will be encouraged with a contribution of $500 or more.
Do you remember a coach you once had that impacted your life in all the best ways? We would like to thank our incredible coaches (Veronika, Luke, Jane and Kellan), who have all given up evenings, weekends, and taken unpaid days off work to get us to this point, our team manager Lynnette, and of course our parents cheering us on from the sidelines, feeding us at tournaments and driving us all around the lower mainland. Thank you, thank you, thank you!
If you are still reading this far, a dear friend to our club and a pioneer in our community creating legacy after legacy of community sport, and coincidently also our founding Director of SVC Wild, Amber Pascual, embodies the "why" behind the importance of making this Nationals dream a reality..
"As a coach, educator, parent and founder of the Make Movement Matter Program in schools, I know that sports and movement saves lives. We know that providing inclusive and accessible movement and sport program opportunities in our communities is essential for our children and youth, and especially our girls. We know that over half of Canadian girls are not playing sports after 17 years old and many of our girls drop out of sport or physical activity programs at 13/14 years old. I have raised two daughters, taught for 27 years, built a program in schools to increase physical literacy skills in order to make life better and easier. I have closed the gender gap in a variety of skills by intentionally teaching girls how to kick, throw, catch, run and balance in the classrooms. With the understanding and belief that if you keep sport fun while building physical literacy skills, we can build confident and competent girls that continue participating and thriving into their adult life. Our communities need programs that understand the value in this work and the impact of supporting programs that specialize in developing our girls' competence and confidence. Supporting families, coaches and the people willing to put in the work to keep sport successful for all is essential and positively impacts more than just the sport."
