Paddle for Poppy - NYC Charity Race

Donation protected
Friends, family and kooks alike,

As a whole lot of you know, come this Saturday August 11th 2018, I will be making one hell of a trip around the greatest city in the world as I compete in a 25 mile paddle race called SEA Paddle NYC . Now you might already be thinking - in the east/harlem river? 25 miles? Lack of judgement aside, there's perfectly good justification for my part in the race - heres why-

This race not only gives me the opportunity compete in the late and great memory of my hero, my role model - my grandfather Matthew Conklin, a man who many of you looked up to, called a friend, and held near and dear. but also gives me the ability contribute in his honor and raise awareness for a couple of causes that were important him and are still to myself and my family - namely -

Skin Cancer Foundation -
As watermen/women and outdoors people, we all know someone or have even been personally effected by one of the three forms of skin cancer. Skin care and protection is often overlooked and underestimated, yet is the worlds most common form of cancer.   The Skin Cancer Foundation of America fund medical research, promotes prevention and awareness, and aids effected families. As a former Rockaway Beach Lifeguard and seaborne WWII Veteran, Poppy Conklin spent plenty of time under the sun, and had a number of bouts with melanoma.

Jamaica Bay Wildlife Refuge -
Once a thriving ecohub of the east coast scattered with white sand beaches and full clear, clean waters, Jamaica Bay has since become a used and abused waterway of New York City - polluted through eutrophication, contamination, and litter.  I still revel in the stories my grandfather would tell of what the bay the we all grew up on looked like back in the day,  and the Jamaica Bay Wildlife Refuge works tirelessly in restoring and preserving the bay to its former glory.

Id like to humbly invite all you guys to support me in my fundraising efforts and be a part of the contributions and changes I'm trying to make. Likewise, I'd love to see as many familiar faces as possible to celebrate the race finish saturday afternoon, so if you'd like to come down to Chelsea Piers for a Miller Light on me with the rest of the support pack contact me for details on the race!

Thanks you guys, wish me luck
-Pat
