Let’s get Mav’s trach out!
Maverick Duran was diagnosed with vocal fold paralysis and had to undergo a Tracheotomy at one and half. Maverick is great with his trach, but it often limits his activities. Jessica, his mom, is consistently worried about his safety as he attempts grow up and do all the things a typical boy likes to do. These challenges and concerns lead to Jessica making the decision for Maverick to undergo another surgery last June. For this surgery, a surgeon takes a piece of rib cartilage and places it in between his vocal cords to allow air to pass through. When they went to his follow-up appointment they found out that the surgery had failed and he would not be able to get his trach out. This was devastating for my sister and Mav. Mav had left that day smiling and telling his Nana he was going to get his trach out. When they returned he walked in sad and told his Nana he wasn’t getting his trach out.
Jessica has worked hard with his Doctor in St. Louis in order to send him to Cincinnati Children’s Hospital’s to do the surgery again. This hospital successfully completes these surgeries on a daily basis. Although the surgery has been approved through his insurance, the expenses of going to the week of testing and time spent when they do the surgery will not be covered. Jessica is a single mom that works hard to provide for him. She and Mav could use some help paying for the extra expenses like food, hotel, and gas. In addition, Jessica will have to take time off and will need help with some bills.
