SDR Strikes Back for Mya!

Donation protected
My neice, Mya, is a  beautiful, smart, fun, spunky 13 year old, that was diagnosed with Cerebral Palsy at just 6 months old.  Her 13 years have been filled with therapies, treatments, therapies, surgeries and, did I mention therapies?  Even with the diligence of her parents in pursuing medical care for Mya, they have seen a decline in the function of her legs and feet over time. This trend will only continue unless a new treatment plan is put into action.

After hearing of a wonderful neurologist that has CP herself, they decided to get her opinion.  This neurologist immediately identified Mya as an excellent candidate for SDR surgery.  This surgery has had great results for children in decreasing spacisity and too much muscle tone, which are both significant issues impeding Mya's mobility.

While the thought of Mya having surgery on her spine is extremely scary, the hope of vastly improved mobility and, therefore, quality of life outweighs the risks.  So, surgery has been scheduled for March 29th.  Now to tackle the many obstacles that must be overcome to make this surgery a success:

1. There are no surgeons in DFW that perform this surgery, which means Mya and her family will be traveling to Ohio for 3 weeks. Mya will be in the hospital for 1 week where she will receive intensive therapies.  Then she will receive outpateint therapies every day for the following 2 weeks.  The rest of the McIntosh family will be staying at a Ronald McDonald House across from the hospital.
2. Mya will need to continue intensive therapies at least 4 times a week once she is home for the next 6 months.  Basically, she will be relearning to walk.
3. As you can imagine, all of this is going to add up. First, there is an $8k deductible that will need to be met for the surgery.  They will then end up spending upwards of $15k in therapies before it's all said and done.

Having 2 children with special needs, medical bills are a way of life for Matthew and Naomi, but this is going to be a bit of a stretch to say the least. Any funds we can raise for them here will go toward these medical bills.

As Mya heads into this surgery in just a couple weeks, we are in desperate need of prayers. While this surgery brings so much hope with it, it also brings a tremendous amount of fear and anxiety.  Please pray that Father God guides the hands of the surgeons and  brings a tremendous amount of peace to Mya and her family.

Thank you in advance for caring for a family that has already faced so many medical struggles.
