(Myra in costume as evil sidekick Pom-Pom at globals)
-----------------------------------------------------------------------
For those of you who know Myra, you know her as a girl in motion; climbing trees, riding bikes, or running around the block in some new costume of her creation. You also know her as a girl of endless imagination and curiosity.

What you might not know is that Myra was diagnosed with Guillain-Barre syndrome in March. For those of you like me who didn't know, Guillain-Barre is when the bodies' auto-immune response to a viral infection gets cross-ways and starts attacking the myelin sheaths of the peripheral nervous system. What it looks like, is that your little girl stays home one day with the flu and the next week is being admitted to the hospital because she is losing the ability to walk. The great news is that after an anxious 6 day visit, filled with spinal taps and MRI machines, we expect a full recovery, at least 85% of young patients do recover fully. Sure enough, Myra is slowly and surely gaining back her strength. The amazing part of the whole ordeal was watching Myra’s tenacity and positive attitude carry her through a very tough week and the beginnings of a very long recovery that can take up to 12 months. It's not easy to go from running and skipping to needing help getting up and walking with the assistance of a walker. Myra has done it with her characteristic humor and determination.
The exciting news is that Myra's Destination Imagination team won state and earned the right to attend Globals in Knoxville, Tennessee, May 19th. Myra is excited to go, but needs your help to get there! With the recent week long hospital "vacation" our families' discretionary budget is a little thin. The money will pay for Myra and Dad's plane tickets, registration fees, food and accomodation (its a package deal). This is an incredible chance for you to help Myra celebrate her hard work and creative spirit.
