Patti's retiring! Support NYC show

This project, a NYC concert, is the celebration of Patti Weeks’ retirement from her 35-year career as a university professor and choreographer. You are invited to honor Patti with donations to this campaign as a way of saying “Thank you!” for her gift of sharing her passion for dance with so many students over the years.

“Collectively Speaking,” a Greenville, NC-based dance collective under the artistic direction of Weeks, is presenting a concert of her choreography in New York City. The collective has received partial funding for this $5,000+ project, but needs to raise more funds to cover the expenses of the venue rental, transportation and honoraria for other artistic personnel.

The Collective Speaking members are pursuing professional performing careers beyond their studies and performance experience in North Carolina.  The experience of performing in New York City, the “dance mecca” of the world, will provide a golden opportunity for the performers to be seen by and make contact with New York City-based dancers, choreographers, actors, designers and musicians.

Weeks’ choreography is often humorous and satirical in nature, with subtexts that make comments on the human condition. Her work receives high praise from other professionals and has been described as “delightful, brilliant,” “professional, clear, funny,” “sophisticated and intricately witty,” and “a breath of fresh air.”

Seasoned NYC musician and songwriter Peter Stampfel, who wrote the rendition of “Midnight in Paris” that Weeks uses in her Hearts Are Young, will be a guest artist on the performance with Collectively Speaking. Stampfel’s music is fun and rollicking and has been described as offbeat, old time “freak” folk.

The performance is Wednesday, May 13 at 8:00 p.m. at The Alchemical Theatre Laboratory, 104 W. 14th St. (between 6th and 7th Avenues.) If you are in the NYC area, please come see the show! Ticket information: https://web.ovationtix.com/trs/pr/946221
