Copper’s Journey

Hi, my name is Dan Holland. I’m an actor based in London, currently working in Sri Lanka — and I’d love to introduce you to someone very special: Copper.

While dining one evening during my time here, a small ball of fur quietly sat on my feet, looking up at me with wagging tail and hopeful eyes. It was love at first sight.

Over the next few days, I couldn’t stop thinking about that puppy. I knew the harsh reality for stray dogs here — many suffer from illness, neglect, or worse — and I felt an overwhelming pull to find her again. I called the hotel we were working with, and sure enough, she was a stray, on her own.

That very morning, I went back and found her chained to an abandoned building — considered a nuisance. I brought a box, scooped her up, and took her straight to the vet. She got a proper check-up and her first round of care. Her name is Copper, she’s a four-month-old Sinhala Hound, and she deserves a life full of love, play, and safety.

For the past two weeks, I’ve been looking after Copper while travelling Sri Lanka and making plans for her future. I’ve decided to bring her home to London with me.

This process isn’t easy — it takes around four months of preparation, vaccinations, paperwork, and care. Thankfully, I’ve been working closely with Embark, an incredible organization in Colombo that supports rescues like Copper as well as Pet Travel Lanka. With their help, she’ll have safe accommodation, proper medical treatment, and everything she needs to travel to the UK stress-free.

That’s where I need your help.

I’m raising funds to cover:

• Copper’s vet bills, vaccinations, and microchipping

• Her boarding and care while in Sri Lanka

• Her travel costs to the UK

• A donation to Embark, whose tireless work is saving lives like Copper’s every day
