Hey friends!

My name is John Mark, and I’m reaching out to ask for help during a period of urgent crisis in my life. I’ve been hesitant to ask, but a friend reminded me that it’s not a weakness to lean on the kindness of others in a time of need.

Two weeks ago, my ankle was run over by a car, and I underwent emergency surgery in order to be able to ever walk again. There are now four permanent steel screws in my ankle, and I am immobilized and in recovery. The surgeon says it will be at least 8 weeks before I can begin to put any weight on my foot or start physical therapy.

Since I cannot walk, I’ve been unable to work, which has put me on the verge of both being evicted and being forced to drop out of college. Rent is due on the first of each month, and this month I am about $300 short due to being stuck in place.

Before my grandfather passed, I made him a promise that I would complete my degree, and I want nothing more than to finish well and honor that promise. College has been a hard journey for me. I haven’t taken the traditional route, but I am determined to finish.

Let me break the numbers down:

My goal: $5000

In order to remain enrolled in college, I will need $2000. This will allow me to bring the bills up to date and be permitted to continue in the fall. The remaining $3000 will be split between paying rent and utilities ($550/mo) and purchasing assets in order to be able to start an online business with my classmates so that I can become self sustaining, excel in my studies, and be an asset to other filmmakers in my program.

This goal has meant the world to me, and after years of closed doors, the chance finally came for me to pursue it. Now, I’ll do whatever it takes to keep it.
