My name is Mason Tree, and I'm a Boy Scout who is working on my Eagle Scout Project. I volunteer at Paws of Coronado, our local 501-C (3) non-profit organization. The Pacific Animal Welfare Society (PAWS) was founded in 2003 by Dorothy "Louise" Shirey. Their mission is to advocate for animal welfare by providing adoption and rehabilitation services to animals under their care, while fostering a more educated community.
I volunteered here for many hours as I earned my "Citizenship in the Community" Merit Badge, and through this time, I learned that many pet owners want to memorialize their pets who have passed on. As I was talking with the leaders of this local PAWS shelter, we came up with the idea for my Eagle Scout Project to build a weather-proof Pet Memorial Display Board so that owners could commemorate their pets.
The display board is an 8 x 4 feet display board, on wheels, with pegs to hang dog-chains and to affix small plaques. The hope is to provide a public place where owners can grieve and get closure when their beloved pet passes, and they can be remembered by putting their name and tags on this display board.
100% of all the funds raised for this Eagle Scout project will be used strictly in the construction of the Display Memorial and all excess funds left over after the construction is completed will be donated to the PAWS of Coronado organization for their exclusive use.
