Scotty and Ashley

Dear friends and family of Scotty, Ashley, & Kids,
As many of you know, on December 17th Scotty fell 25 feet from a rooftop while working and landed on a cement retaining wall and broke all of the ribs on his left side (some in multiple spots), his left shoulder, a rib on his right side, injured his spleen, and punctured his lung. As he was losing the ability to breath, due to internal bleeding, he was able to find the strength to pull out his phone, chew the thumb off of his glove, and call for help.
Meanwhile, Ashley heard reports of a 30-year-old male falling and in need of an ambulance on her EMT radio. She immediately knew it was Scotty.
At the Homer hospital they were able to get him somewhat stable before his life-flight to anchorage by inserting a tube between his ribs and releasing the blood from his lungs.
He was admitted to the ICU in anchorage so that he could be closely monitored to ensure that his spleen would 1. stop bleeding and 2. not rupture and create the need for an emergency surgery.
They did an epidural between his shoulder blades to keep the pain at a tolerable level. He has since been able to rest and further stabilize which means the doctors can now shift focus from monitoring the once critical state of his spleen to doing surgery and reconstructing his ribs with titanium plates.
To every one praying, I want to say thank you so much. Your prayers have made all of the difference in his recovery and helping the whole family to navigate this situation with peace. What was a very scary and tragic scenario is now a hopeful journey towards full recovery.
A good chunk of their medical expenses should be covered by their family insurance but unfortunately the loss of income over the next few months as he recovers, and quite a few misc. expenses, will be left for them to shoulder personally.
Scotty and Ashley would never ask for a dime and would definitely figure out a way to survive through the process. But, after receiving quite a few inquiries from people wanting to love and support them financially, we decided to launch a go fund me to make giving easy and efficient.
Thank you everyone who has already helped financially and with accommodations here in anchorage.
If the surgery goes well, and he continues to recover like he has already, there is a solid chance Scotty will be home with his family for Christmas.
Though Scotty and Ashley are handling the situation like champs, it’s easy to imagine how scary and traumatic something like this actually is for them. My hope is that the last thing they need to worry about right now is the financial burden that comes with crisis and how to make ends meet while Scotty heals up. Let’s do our best to be generous and bless these guys above and beyond their wildest dreams and turn this into one of the most wonderful Christmas’s they have ever had!
