Scott's journey to Uganda
Donation protected
On an early July morning a small seed was planted. Minutes later it was already pushing the ground aside, extending it's leaves. That seed contained my excitement to volunteer mind and body, explore, witness other cultures, and share the experience through photographs. A chance to reflect through helping others.
This December I'll spend Christmas in Uganda with a family different than my usual relatives -- about 180 of them.
Through partnership with changethetruth.org (CTT) I'll travel to St. Mary Kevin Orphanage Motherhood, a children's home located in a suburb of Kampala, the capital of Uganda. As part of a small team of teachers, photographers, students & videographers we'll spend two weeks with the children -- teaching, playing,
listening, working and learning.
Uganda and surrounding African countries carry a difficult history. Civil wars, disease, limited access to resources. The children supported by St. Mary Kevin have lost their families due to civil war, HIV/AIDS.
I need your help! This is a self-funded journey. Flights to Africa aren't inexpensive, and though economics are in our favor, ground transportation, lodging and food in Uganda will be a considerable cost as well. I'm filling a duffel bag full of requested items for the children that I'd love your help with! They need backpacks, deodorant, bandaids, cough drops, art supplies and seeds for their garden: spinach, eggplant, cabbage, carrot and green pepper. I'll purchase these things in the next week.
Your donations will help fund my travel and support the purchase of supplies like the ones listed above. One third of the money raised here will go directly to CTT, to be doubled by my employer's match program, which supports children's programs.
Thank you for your support. This is a life-changing dream for me, and I can't wait to share the stories and images of my travels when I return in early January.
