Scott's Place

***UPDATE AUGUST 2021***

Dear friends of Scott,

To update you on the progress for getting the seating area near the Marina at Breezy Shores that Scott dreamed of, here is where we are.

Thanks to your generosity, we've raised over $5700. The proposal of building benches on the platform by the sailboat dock is under consideration, but the dock itself needs important safety upgrades and erosion mitigation. Because of the year lost to Covid, there is a backup among marine contractors and supplies, and the dock we are hoping to use needs structural repairs. Therefore, the seating will not be built and installed this season, unfortunately.

If, after evaluation, it is necessary to choose a new area to build seating, we will share with you this location and plan for how to design and implement this. We are most certainly hoping to complete this work in the spring/summer of next year. Thank you all again for your generosity and your patience as we seek to honor Scott in a way he would approve of and enjoy immensely.

Friends and loved ones: Anyone who knew Scott also knew that his true happy place in life was a small waterfront community on Long Island's bucolic North Fork called Breezy Shores.

The feeling was mutual. Breezy Shores wouldn't be what it is today without Scott Winslow. He contributed so much love and labor to the rescue of these cottages, and was a pioneer of the group who helped organize the community it has grown to become.

For all the projects Scott completed for others over the past 25 years, he never got around to a few for himself. Among these are a large, comfortable seating area near the docks where he loved to swim and play guitar, and a maple tree for the community's secret garden where he and his love Margaret would often stroll.

The requested funds will go towards clearing brush and grading the land near the docks, purchasing teak benches and upholstered cushions, purchasing and planting a mature tree, and commissioning an engraved placard in Scott's memory.

This work will happen in the spring/summer of 2021 under the supervision of several community members and close friends.

Thank you for considering a donation of any amount to help memorialize Scott's Place.
