Scott's Fight Is Our Fight

Scott, also affectionately known as Scotty, Scooter or Ketter, is a special type of guy, truly one of a kind. When you first meet him, he leaves an immediate and unforgettable impression. When I was four years old, I had the honor and pleasure of becoming one of Scott's best friends for life. We remained close friends throughout schooling and beyond. After high school, our lives took us in different directions geographically, but our brotherly bond continued bringing us back together.
Scott has a playful way of getting to know a person very quickly. After hanging out with him, you will most likely have a new inside joke that HE will not let you ever forget. He has a natural way of lighting up the room with his humor, yet Scott has never been a "look at me" person. Being the center of attention is not really "his thing." His Instagram does not even have a picture of him, for goodness' sake! Instead, he posts images and videos of his goldendoodle, Kaya, who has been by his side through thick and thin. When Scott is not playing with his beloved dog, he is an avid sportsman and sports fan, often seen passionately yelling at the TV when the Badgers, Brewers, Bucks or Packers are playing. Scott was also a loyal and dedicated employee of 15+ years at Fastenal, where he had to stop working in December 2021.
Always active and sporty, Scott knew something felt "off" when he noticed a lack of strength in many physical activities, including no longer driving a golf ball 300+ yards. It was undeniable when everyday tasks became a challenge. In August 2021, Scott was officially diagnosed with amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS) or Lou Gehrig's disease, a serious disease that worsens over time. Eventually, Scott will lose the ability to walk, breathe, speak, and eat independently. The life expectancy post-diagnosis usually ranges from 2 to 5 years. More information on the disease can be found at www.als.org.
During the past few months, Scott's disease has become increasingly aggressive. He can no longer live alone, as he requires constant care. Scott recently moved from Eau Claire, WI, where he had lived since his college days. He left many close friends who were so instrumental to his life and care over the past 20+ years, especially recently.
Scott begins his new journey at the house of his brother, Kyle, sister-in-law, Kate, and nephews, Levi and Max. He will be closer to his mom, Ellen, dad, Dan, and countless friends and family in his hometown of Walworth, WI. This necessary move comes with many new expenses. In addition to the physical remodeling of his brother's house to accommodate the various challenges of ALS, there are countless additional expenses, including nurse visits, medication, wheelchair, lift chair, ramp and car with lift capability. ALS is not a cheap disease.
Despite his daunting diagnosis, Scott continues to be an amazing son, brother, uncle, dog dad and friend to many. Along with your phone calls, texts and prayers to Scott, please consider any size donation (big or small) to help alleviate some of the financial burden associated with this awful disease. Let's show Scott some love and help make him as comfortable as possible.
Much Love and Gratitude,
Ron Weeks
