Hi.
UPDATE 4.29: After weeks of negotiating and pleading with the other party's Insurance Company, I convinced them not to Total the car IF I were to pay for a big chunk of the repairs. They refused to pay the entire estimate - it came out as a Total Loss. But I wanted to keep the car if possible. So I ended up spending about $2k of my donations to pay for the remainder of the repairs that the Insurance Company would not pay for. I now have my car back...basically in the state it was in prior to the accident. Problem is, it was already on it's "last legs". Even with all the repairs, it still needs around $4k in repairs (New Transmission, Timing Belt, Right Rear Quarter Panel and Rear Bumper) if I'm going to be able to keep it for years to come, and sell it one day. I DON'T expect any more donations, since it's back to where it was, and it'd take another $6k or so to buy a car in today's market. But if you're feeling philanthropic, feel free to keep donating so that I can make the repairs, and get the car back to Excellent Condition, so that I may keep it for some time, and sell it when the time comes. Thank you all very very much for your generous donations. They enabled me to get my car back, and not NEED a new/used car right away.
This is Scott Snyder, and I’m trying to raise money to help me pay for a recent emergency. Two weeks ago, someone crashed into my car. Thank God both parties walked away unscathed, so I feel lucky in that sense. The accident was entirely the fault of the other driver. Problem is, I drive a 22-year-old car, and the Insurance Co tells me that what’s likely to happen is they’ll consider the car a “total loss”, and give me a very small amount of money for the now Salvaged vehicle…then sell my mangled car at auction for parts.
This GoFundMe is an effort to raise money to buy a new used car. I’m not talking about a Tesla or an Infinity…maybe just a 12 year old Civic or something that will last me for some time. The problem is I can’t possibly afford to buy any new used car...
BECAUSE:
I’m afflicted with recurring bouts of Treatment-Resistant Clinical Depression. My “bouts” usually last around six months, then they completely go away, and I live a normal life for 7-9 years. Well the bout of Depression that I’m currently in is going into its SEVENTH YEAR. I became depressed in March of 2015, and have been very ill ever since. I will say that the illness does ebb and flow, and there are moments of peace. For those of you who know a bit about Depression, I’ve tried “everything” – Therapy, every single Medication, TMS, Ketamine, and ECT (twice). A couple meds made the Depression lift temporarily, but then it quickly came back. It’s very difficult to describe the “pain” that the illness causes but trust me, at times it's Unbearable. I continue to try new medication combinations and new therapies…but thus far, nothing is helping. At first I was able to power through it, and work…but it’s been quite bad for the last couple years, and I cannot work. I’m barely subsiding on Social Security Disability Insurance, and the past-due Bills are piling up. I certainly cannot afford a new used Car.
It’s embarrassing for me to have to resort to a Fundraiser as I’ve been fortunate enough to enjoy both Health and Wealth throughout most of my life…but everything changed six years ago. I'm holding out hope that this illness will either go away on its own or that I'll find a treatment that works. I'm DYING to go back to work!
As anyone who’s lived in Los Angeles knows, it’s very difficult to live without a car. It’s a large city with terrible Public Transportation, and I have lots of Doctors’ appointments – most too far away to bicycle to. So owning a car here is essential.
Feel free to donate a little, a lot, or nothing at all…I have no expectations. I sincerely appreciate any donations that I may receive. I’m trying to get my story out to as many people as possible - so if any of you feel like passing my GoFundMe page along to any Philanthropically-minded individuals or groups, please do so – you just need to send the link to my GFM page.
Thank you all for taking the time to read my story, and a huge thanks in advance for any donations that eventually lead to my getting a used car.
Scott
