Our friend, Scott Lew, died on Feb. 25 at his home in Los Angeles. He was diagnosed with a neurodegenerative disease, known as Lou Gehrig's disease, in June 2003 and given a three year life expectancy. He courageously defied the odds and served as an inspiration to all that knew him. Scott was fiercely funny, enormously talented, and extremely generous to all who knew him. When he was diagnosed, he was given 3 years to live - he survived for 15 years. There were 3 reasons for that - his wife, Ann, and their 7 year old twin sons, Rocky and Roman. Ann was his voice when he had none and Rocky and Roman were his soul.
Now that Scott is gone, Ann, Rocky and Roman have to adjust to a life without him. Ann will be getting back into the workforce after having spent the last 15 years taking care of Scott - who required 24 hour care. Scott's care and needs were expensive and Ann and the boys are now effectively starting from scratch. The hope of this campaign is to enable Ann, Rocky and Roman to remain in Los Angeles, for the boys to be able to stay at their amazing school where they have found a great community and for them to have a cushion while they embark on a life with Scott and his illness being at the center of it.
Ann is very proud and would never ask for help. But whenever I have needed her, even with her full plate of responsibilities, she has been there for me. She is kind, generous and loving. She has had to bear the weight of a devastating illness, single parenting two fun-loving and mischievous boys and watching the love of her life torturously leave her. Please consider helping Ann with the rebuilding of her life and the life of her twin boys.
