Assistance for Scott and Jenn

-----UPDATE-----UPDATE-----UPDATE-----UPDATE-----

Here's an update from Jenn....

"So I guess the update would be that we were told after another all day testing day, Scott should be placed on the transplant list and because of his blood type, he could get a transplant in 6-12 months. Down side, then the daily meds that could cost about $2000 a month and not sure how much is covered by insurance. He is still on outpatient dialysis 3 times a week. We are hoping to get him on at home dialysis within 3 months. Right now, Cobra is about $1200 and we need Medicare, but that doesn't become available until he has been on dialysis for 4 months. I did get a job, but can only do about 20 hours a week until he is on home dialysis. No insurance though employer at this time. Both cars need brakes. Especially since they are used to deliver papers right now. Since we have to move by Oct 31, we are going to look at homes on Wednesday and keep looking until we find a place. Then there is the moving, which is when the fun really begins. I guess I don't know much more. Scott has been doing ok, but has had a couple bad cramping days during dialysis and some days he is just completely exhausted. But...things could be worse so I can not complain!"

-----------------------------------------------------------------------

Dear friends of Scott and Jenn,

if you've been following what has happened to this wonderful couple in recent weeks, you probably already know that they have encountered a quite a rough patch.

- Scott has been having some ongoing medical issues
- Jenn's car was rear-ended
- Jenn was recently laid off; her job was what was providing the Schieds with health insurance
- the house they have been renting is now going to be sold and they will have to move out soon
- Scott had to go to the emergency room recently and now must have dialysis on a daily basis

Any one of these single events would be challenging in and of itself, but to be dealing with health issues in the face of not having insurance compounds *everything* else that is going on. These are the types of situations where some help from friends could really go a long way to get these two through the financial challenges of the next few months.

The Schieds initially requested help in the form of gift cards to Hy-Vee (local grocery store) or Target. If you are able and willing to send those to Scott or Jenn, their address (until they move) is:

4139 Thomas Avenue North
Minneapolis, MN 55412

Yet, their upcoming costs are not limited to groceries and household items. Medical bills, costs associated with moving, renting, etc. will add up fast, which is why we wanted to start this site. We don't know what the medical costs will be without insurance (from google, it looks to be somewhere in the $50-75,000 range on a yearly basis - ugh!), but we can do our best to ensure Scott's health isn't compromised during this tumultuous time.

The sooner we can give, the sooner the Schieds will have some choices in managing their lives and getting settled - new medical requirements, residence, job, etc.

I know that Scott has recieved a generous outpouring of emotional support from his recent posts on Facebook, which I know he appreciates (and has probably told you as much!). For those of you who want to and are able to do more, here's an opportunity to help your friends in need. Every donation helps - no matter how small or large - and will keep the Schieds comfortable amidst a flurry of change.
