Scott and Paula need our help……

Scott has been having health problems off and on for at least the last year. Things seemed to be getting worse. He had been having stomach issues. He then became anemic…. Finally, when he went to the intacare they found something in his abdomen. They sent him to the U of U hospital where he spent three days. They found that he has a 15-pound tumor that they are sure is cancer. They sent him home with a plan to do a biopsy and then prepare for surgery to try to remove the mass. The day after they went home, they got a call from the hospital letting them know that their insurance would not cover the U of U. The emergency room visit, the hospital stay and all of the tests and hospital charges, will NOT be covered. They were also told that anything further would have to be cash pay. Paula was able to get some coverage through the marketplace that started as of May 1. May 3 Scott had a biopsy of the tumor in his abdomen. This tumor is affecting so many things. His liver, his kidney, his intestines and much more! Scott has had a hard time eating anything and has been getting weaker and weaker. He was in a lot of pain and dehydrated. Finally, they took him to the U of U emergency room to get some help. He was admitted and started to help him with his symptoms. They then scheduled the surgery to remove the tumor for Tuesday. They also did more testing. The results of one of the ct scans shows another tumor in his neck. They planned to do a biopsy, but have decided to wait until after the surgery on Tuesday. They put in a pic line to start giving him much needed IV nutrition. They are giving him meds to stay on top of the pain. This is going to be a long process.

Currently it has been weeks since Scott was able to work. He is a tile layer and does not have sick time or any paid time off. Paula has just recently started a new job. She has been trying to work as much as possible but needing to be with Scott and care for him has made that hard. She has missed work, with no paid time off. Like many of us it takes two incomes to maintain their household basics. Now the bills from the services that were not covered have started to come in and the bills that they will have to pay co pays and out of pocket expenses are mounting. It is unknown if Scott will be able to go back to work. Paula will be trying to juggle working and caring for Scott. The financial strain is mounting. I have had a lot of people ask me what we can do………

First I believe that our prayers are so important to help them through this.

Second is helping to ease the financial burden. We will be starting to fund raise to see if we can help this issue. Any help you can give in this process would be appreciated.

There has been a donation account set up at America First in the name of Scott Young. Anyone can walk into an America First Credit Union branch and donate to that account.

You can donate through venmo too @paula-young-1018
