Scott Wilson's Medical Expenses

Donation protected
“It’s a good day to have a good day.” Scott Wilson embodies this saying regardless of what is thrown his way. Always the brightest light in the room, his contagious laugh and love for others fill the world with kindness. Freely giving of himself, always helping one to see their strengths and shifting thoughts to the happy things in life.

In the fall of 2019, I was called to the ER late one night when Scott “wasn’t acting quite right.” Ragan called because it was apparent something was wrong. That is when we got our first look at what Scott later named Ursula, the brain tumor that had silently taken up residence in his head. From the moment Scott’s seizure subsided in the emergency room (heck, even while having the seizure and unable to formulate words), his outlook and approach has been nothing but determined optimism. Despite the challenges and obstacles that lie ahead for him to evict this unwanted house guest, he was constantly checking on everyone else to make sure they were handling things ok. He had his first brain surgery that December, and his recovery, while far from easy, happened just in time for him to get back in the gym doing what he loves, spreading joy to others. With clearance from the doctors, the team bus met him along the way to our first meet of the season.

After a few years of regular doctor appointments, scans and check-ups, in May, we got news none of us wanted to hear; the tumor had returned. Scott’s healthcare team did not want to give Ursula any time to get cozy, so they went in to evict her yet again. In June of 2022, Scott underwent brain surgery number two. In true Scott fashion, he kept the attention off himself and his worries and focused on what he needed to do to stay positive and healthy. The second surgery was again successful and brought another difficult 6 weeks of recovery for a man who does not enjoy staying low-key and resting. Nevertheless, Scott recovered from the surgery and was back again in record time. Unfortunately, this time there is another leg to his treatment plan. The tumor board in charge of his care has determined it is time for a thorough eradication of this suborn tenant and hopefully any future descendants, which brings us to the here and now. Scott has recently started the first of 30 proton radiation treatments and 42 chemotherapy treatments. This will require him to live away from home for the next six to seven weeks during his radiation treatments at Northwestern Medicine Proton Center. The remainder of his chemotherapy treatments will take place back here in Muncie over the next several months.

This is where I am reaching out to ask all who know Scott, and even those who don’t, please dig into your positive mindfulness bag, and put those positive vibes out in the world. The result can be hugely beneficial when we all come together and do a little. Scott needs your support, prayers, and, if you are able, a financial donation to help with the medical expenses associated with this type of specialized treatment. He almost always reminds everyone, “you can’t control what happens to you, but you can control how you respond to it.” I hope we can all respond to this news by putting our arms around Scott and letting him know we have his back.
