Sometimes the strongest people need help too.

I never imagined I would be writing something like this for two people who have spent their entire lives giving so much to others. I’m Gladys and Susan is my sister, our family is reaching out for help because Scott needs the freedom to focus on what matters most — his health.

Scott is currently undergoing cancer treatment and has reached a point where continuing to work full time simply isn’t possible. Stepping away from work creates a significant financial strain for their family during an already overwhelming time. The stress of bills and day-to-day expenses is the last thing Scott and Susan should be carrying right now.

If you know Scott and Susan, you know how hard it is for them to accept help. Scott has been a dedicated volunteer firefighter for many years, and together with Susan, they have been a huge presence in their community, especially within the local sports community. Susan has such a natural way of making everyone feel safe and welcome that she earned the nickname “Momma Sue.” When their four children were growing up — and even well into adulthood — their home was always full of kids, teammates, and friends who knew they could find comfort, support, and a second family there.

Their children are all grown now, and they are also proud grandparents to two beautiful grandchildren who absolutely adore their Grampy. Our hope is that Scott can focus on healing and spend as much time as possible with the people who love him most, without the constant worry of how they will manage financially.

As their family, we want to take some of that pressure off of them. We want Scott to be able to rest, heal, and focus on his treatment without the fear of falling behind. We want Susan to be able to support her husband without carrying the weight of financial stress on top of everything else.

They would never ask for this themselves — but we are asking for them. Any donation, no matter the amount, will help ease the burden of everyday expenses and allow this family the space to focus on healing and being together.
