I want to thank you so much for your care, encouragement, and prayers over the last several years as I’ve struggled with back pain. Your love has not only kept me going, but also has been a glorious expression of God’s personal love to me through His people! Ya’ll are amazing!!
I have struggled with back pain due to scoliosis for a number of years and herniated my disc (L4/L5) in November 2016. After unsuccessfully trying a number of different treatments over the next year, Dr. Matthew Lee at Tallahassee Orthopedic performed a microdiscectomy to remove disc fragments in my lower back. While the surgery was successful, Dr. Lee cautioned that I would most likely need a more extensive surgery (including spinal fusion of 3 vertebrae and a shunt) in the future.
Unfortunately, the nerve pain down my leg returned pretty quickly, and an MRI in January 2019 confirmed that my disc was herniated once again because of the scoliosis. Dr. Lee recommended that I pursue non-surgical treatment as long as possible due to severity of the next surgery. This led me to my chiropractor’s (Dr. Montilla) mentor, Dr. Anthony Nalda, who has helped scoliosis patients all over the world using the CLEAR method.
The CLEAR method begins with a complete physical examination and a series of x-rays, which is used to create an individualized treatment plan, as well as order a corrective brace (ScoliBrace®) that uniquely fits my spine. We have tentatively scheduled this exam for November 8. The first payment of $3600 is due at this time.
I (and Julia as my cheerleader!) then plan to go the week of December 16-20 to Celebration, FL for intensive treatment, which includes 2 treatment sessions (2-3 hours each) per day for 5 days. These sessions include multiple types of treatment, such as chiropractic, exercise therapy, active rehabilitation, passive rehabilitation, and corrective bracing.
I have already consulted with Dr. Nalda, and based on my treatment history, previous X-rays, and posture pictures, he believes that my scoliosis will be reduced by 30% or more and that my spine can be held in its corrective position through exercises and the corrective brace. He also believes that the reduction of my scoliosis will lessen the pressure on my disc and potentially allow the disc to resorb the herniated material, thereby delaying or even eliminating the need for spinal surgery.
Both Dr. Montilla and Dr. Lee approve of this treatment. Unfortunately, Dr. Nalda is out of network, and CHP has denied covering the treatment.
The total cost of this treatment (including travel expenses) is about $10,000. So, I am humbly asking that you would consider contributing to the cost of this treatment. I also ask that you join us in praying that God restores my back, so that I can better serve Him, my family, my church, and my neighbor.
