Scott Mathis's Battle with Cancer
Donation protected
Hi everyone, Elizabeth and I have received a great outpouring of support and questions regarding our dad, Scott. Multiple people have asked us how they could help and have requested we create a GoFundMe page to have an outlet to show their love and support. So here it is…by popular request! I would also like to use this as a way to keep everyone updated on his progress throughout his cancer journey. This wild ride began almost 5 months ago when he went to his primary care physician for his yearly physical. He brought up his decreased appetite and what would be described to him as discomfort due to digestion. It was brushed off by the physician as heartburn and he was given a prescription. Well unfortunately the “heartburn” never went away. The progression of the symptoms only began to worsen as time passed to the point, he lost 40 lbs within 3.5 months. Other symptoms included severe pain in his abdomen that would radiate up his back, no appetite, nausea, dizziness, and excessive burping. Shortly after Christmas, he was admitted to the ER where they performed emergency surgery to remove his gallbladder. That is where doctors discovered we were dealing with more than gallstones. He has had multiple tests and procedures conducted throughout this process including blood work, x-rays, sonograms, CT scans, MRIs, emergency gallbladder surgery, blood transfusions, endoscopy, colonoscopy, port placement surgery and we will now be adding chemotherapy to this list. We have a long road ahead of us, but we are prepared to face stage 4 pancreatic cancer head-on and kick its butt! Dad continues to stay in good spirits, which I am thankful for. He is a devoted Christian with a steadfast love for his family and friends. God blessed me and my sister with the best, choosing him as our dad. He is not a man of many words, and his calm demeanor is that to be admired. Please continue to pray for comfort and healing. This fight cannot be fought alone...with an amazing God, an army of support and a village of prayers. We are truly blessed to be able to say my dad has all of these, so please keep them coming!
