'Scott's Bar' ❤️
On Monday 17th August, we sadly lost Scott, who passed away peacefully surrounded by the people closest to him.
Scott had been fighting a short but incredibly difficult illness. He faced his last couple of weeks with enormous bravery, and although we hoped he would have more time, his family were able to be by his side and keep him surrounded by love.
Scott leaves behind his beloved wife, Nicola, his children and grandchildren who he particularly adored, his parents, and a wider family who will miss him more than words can say.
Scott was a much-loved character and a familiar face in the village, and The Red Lion held a particularly special place in his heart. He had been part of the pub for many years and had a real connection with the people, history and community around it.
More recently, Scott had taken on what can only be described as a rather ambitious project, refurbishing The Red Lion and bringing it back to life. It was a huge undertaking, but Scott was passionate about it. He had a vision for what the pub could become and was determined to see it through. He has ripped it to pieces and kindly left us with a shell of a building to work with... Sadly, he won't be here to finish what he started. Scott always said charity starts at home, so rather than flowers, in the event people would like to make a donation, we could not think of a better cause than creating something lasting in his memory. We are now designing ‘Scott’s bar’ this will be in the beer garden with his stool and a place we can sit and have a beer or glass of wine and share stories of Scott. His community garden bar will be designed and built from your kind donations, for his friends, family and future customers to enjoy.
What began as Scott's project has become something we hope the whole village can help us carry forward, creating a lasting tribute to someone who was such a big part of the community. If you knew Scott, you will know that he would probably have thought we were completely mad for taking this on! But we hope that, in time, we can stand in his beer garden in the finished pub and raise a glass to him, knowing that his vision and his love for the place have lived on.
There is absolutely no pressure or expectation to donate. Your messages, memories, support and presence as we celebrate Scott's life mean just as much to his family. But if you would like to contribute, every donation, however large or small, will help us to honour Scott in the way he deserves, and finish what he started.
Thank you in advance for helping us keep Scott's memory alive through this very special place in the village.
In memory of Scott.
And to the Red Lion he loved so much. ❤️
