From Scott’s daughters, Katie and Kelsie, via Caring Bridge on April 6th:
On Friday, April 4, 2025, our family experienced a devastating car accident as we were returning from what had been a joyful celebration—a family cruise for mom's 60th birthday.
Scott, Laurie, daughter Kelsie, her husband Brooks, and their three young kids were all in the vehicle at the time of the crash. While we are immensely grateful that Kelsie, Brooks, and the kids escaped unharmed, both Scott and Laurie sustained serious trauma.
Laurie suffered a brain bleed and was hospitalized for two days. She is now recovering, though understandably shaken and concerned for Scott.
Scott's injuries are more severe. He fractured his cervical spine (neck) and thoracic spine (mid back), and broke several ribs. He has already undergone one surgery on his neck, with more procedures planned in the coming days to further realign and fuse his spine. Currently, he has movement in his forearms, head, and shoulders. The longterm effects to his mobility remain unknown but we believe in the healing power of prayer and will be cheering him on every step of the way. Even in these difficult moments, Scott's good humor and playfulness are still shining through. He's winking at us and mouthing "I love you."
We are asking earnestly for your prayers during this time. Our faith in Jesus gives us hope and strength. Please keep Scott in your daily prayers as he faces surgeries and the long rehabilitation process ahead.
In addition to prayers, we humbly ask that you would consider donating to Scott and Laurie. There will be a significant financial needs in the weeks and months ahead, with not only medical bills, but lodging, travel, food, and complicated logistics of needing medical care far away from home and loved ones. They will receive any contribution with immense gratitude.
If you are hoping to support in other ways, DoorDash or InstaCart gift cards would be very helpful during the long stay in Orlando.
Scott is at Orlando Regional Medical Center and Laurie has been staying at Marriott's TownePlace Suites Orlando Downtown.
Your prayers, thoughts, and positive energy mean the world to us right now.
For those who have reached out already, thank you for your love and support. It truly means everything to our family during this uncertain time.
With gratitude, hope, and faith,
Katie & Kelsie
