Scott Kellogg Could Really Use a Break

Donation protected
My husband, Scott Kellogg is a generous man who is often fun, always helpful, cares about his friends and family, at times admittedly stubborn, and the hardest working man I know. It is his passion for music, blood, sweat, and tears that has enabled him to build a successful business. I could not be prouder of him and our funky little record shop. Scott is the heart of our business because he loves music and goes to great lengths to share his passion with others. He cares about his customers and strives to improve the community by providing service that is fair, authentic, and welcoming. It has not been an easy journey for us, as one could imagine running a small business can be extremely challenging. There are so many factors that can bring a business down in a heartbeat. We have faced many challenges and are grateful for the support we have received from friends, family, and the community.

Over the past year, Scott has been dealt some pretty hard blows. Last week his van was stolen while we were celebrating our 7th wedding anniversary at the Northern Quest Casino. Upon leaving we discovered that the van was gone. The theft was captured on video. The thieves were pros and were in the van and gone in less than 60 seconds. The van was recovered later that day but at a total loss. His van is extremely important for the business is his only means of transportation, and contained his backpack which had his medication and $2,400 inside it. Needless to say, the backpack was never recovered. We were devastated.

Earlier this year Scott was hospitalized with congestive heart failure and shortly after the business drastically slowed down. The combination of Scott being out of commission and the decrease in income caused a deficit that drained our savings and sent us into a game of robbing Peter to pay Paul. We believed that we could manage the situation as we are resourceful and hardworking folks. We were on an upswing, a slight upswing, but an upswing nonetheless and then the van went missing along with the medication that keeps Scott alive and $2,400.

To make matters worse three weeks prior our landlord of six years informed us that they were raising the rent by $1000, as they planned to renovate the property. That conversation did not go well and instead of offering us apologies, we were flooded with threatening notices asking us to vacate the premises by the end of the month. The house was not in great shape when we took over the lease and due to the negligence of our landlord who resided in Seattle, we will not be getting our $1300 deposit back. We are going to be charged for repairs that are beyond our control as the issues were there when we moved in and proceeded to get worse.

We consider ourselves lucky as we have found a place to live in a great location with an awesome commute. Our new home is connected to the record shop, but we traded 3,000 square feet for 1,200 and had to play that not-so-fun game of first, last, and deposit.

Our current situation does not afford one to go van shopping, order desperately needed inventory, or realistically cover our personal and business expenses.

Scott needs funds to purchase a vehicle and we need funds to catch up and carry on.

I offered to create this Gofundme for Scott as he is reluctant to share our not-so-cool situation, but after a lengthy discussion that included terms like, “stop being so stubborn” and “why are you stubborn”, Scott relented and said, “Fine, just do it”, which really means, “Thank you, honey, you are the best wife a man could ask for”.

My generous, loving, hardworking, and community-minded husband could use a bit of a break.

We thank you for your generosity and continued support of the record shop and our family.
