Scott Hoyt Memorial Scholarship Fund

On a beautiful Fall day, my ever-optimistic Dad passed away from multiple health complications on October 29th, 2019. My Dad was Vermont-born, an incredible athlete, and a linguist in the Vietnam War, but more importantly, a Son, Brother, Husband, Dad, Uncle and adored Grandpa. He loved books, was a lifelong student, and read the dictionary for fun. My Dad was a lawyer by trade, but he was absolutely passionate about teaching. He undoubtedly ruffled some feathers teaching in Sunday School and delighted in saying he was "off to jail!" when he taught GED classes to inmates at the Douglas County Jail. This giant teddy bear of a man could hardly speak of the success stories of students at Metropolitan Community College without often shedding a few tears. It moved him deeply to see students learn new ideas and found great satisfaction in their grasp of new concepts.

In early 2020, I signed up to run my first marathon in my Dad's honor in Lincoln, Nebraska. My Dad and I have always loved watching the Nebraska Cornhuskers football team and it seemed fitting to run my first one in Nebraska. Due to the pandemic however, my 2020 marathon has been rescheduled for this next Sunday, May 2nd. I have run over 1,500 miles by now in training for this marathon, and even though most of the training was in the cold and snow, it has helped me cope with my grief immensely. I cannot wait to run it for him next Sunday. I am raising funds to complete the funding for my Dad's memorial scholarship and we would be so very honored to have your support.
