Hello!
My name is Dee Dee Kuharik-Rezabek. Together with my Husband, Gary Rezabek, I'd like to tell you about a great couple, Scott and Liza DeFries. Scott served in the Army for 12.5 years. He was an 82nd Airborne Paratrooper and helped capture the action as a Public Affairs Office Photographer. He served with the 82nd Airborne during Operation Just Cause, Panama, 1989 and then during Operation Desert Shield/Desert Storm 1990-1991. Unfortunately, he fractured his hip during a jump, and made the difficult decision at that time, to leave the Army.
After his time serving his country, Scott met and married the love of his life, Liza. They loved to travel all across the US, and their pictures were viewed by many, PROUDLY holding the 82nd Airborne flag. Scott (with the support of his wife) also served as the photographer for the 82nd Airborne Division Association ....and everyone knew, because of Scott, "If you can't see the camera, it can't see you!".
Unfortunately, in 2019, Scott's kidneys failed, and he had to have dialysis every few days since then. Scott and Liza have weathered thru all the ups and downs for 4 years.
Then, in the afternoon of November 20th, they got the call....they had a kidney for Scott! Having only a few short hours to get everything coordinated, soon they were on a plane to the Mayo Clinic in Minnesota. The surgery went well, and everything appeared to be good.
Unfortunately, some complications developed. Scott developed an infection which required a second surgery, and he continues on IV antibiotics. Scott is still, also, requiring dialysis until his kidney is fully functioning. Liza has been a trooper, making sure Scott takes all his meds, doing dressing changes 2 times a day, and running back and forth to the hospital with Scott, from their hotel for an array of appointments. It is not unusual for organ recipients to have to stay in the vicinity of the hospital for up to 3 months. Liza is off of work for an undetermined length of time.
We humbly request any donations that you can give to this wonderful couple.
Thanks in advance,
Dee Dee and Gary
