Scott Catone's Heart Quest

Donation protected
Scott Catone is my best friend. He has been my best friend most of my life and I, selfishly, don't want to lose him. Scott is a devoted, goofy, movie-quoting, god and family-loving warrior who has faced tragic adversity in his life. He is being called to fight yet again. This time for his life.

Last July Scott was started feeling short of breath while at the gym. Being a nurse (focused on others, not on himself), he shrugged off his symptoms and kept caring for others. Finally, when he could bear it no longer, he sought medical care. Initially, he was diagnosed with bronchitis, then pneumonia, and finally, this October, Scott was diagnosed with cardiomyopathy and heart failure. Unbeknownst to this strong man, he had suffered through what some people call "the widow-maker," a massive heart attack that weakened his heart to the point where it cannot be repaired. He was admitted to the ICU on October 8th at the Medical City Dallas Heart Hospital where he underwent a litany of tests and was put on medications to keep his heart working. He remains dependant on IV medication to keep his heart pumping today. Yesterday, Scott's medical team came to Scott and told him that his heart is not viable and he faces two options: a heart transplant or death.

Scott has cared for others for the last 25 years. He served as a U.S. Army soldier in the first gulf war as a patriot missile operator. After his time in the U.S. Army, he continued to feel the urge to help others and went to school to be a registered nurse. He has been a cardiac nurse (believe it or not...) where he took care of people in very similar situations as he finds himself today. He worked as an ER nurse, a home health nurse, a volunteer, and most importantly, a husband and a father.  He has always been a huge patient and family advocate, fighting for others. Scott is a faithful servant of Christ and is active in his faith through Life Fellowship Church in McKinney Texas and was known to serve coffee to other members every Sunday before his illness struck.  Now Scott needs our help.

Scott has not been able to work since he was admitted to the hospital and will not be able to work until he receives a new heart. Current and future medical bills are astronomical and, unfortunately, normal everyday bills do not stop when someone is awaiting a heart transplant.

I urge EVERY person EVER touched by Scott Catone and his caring, loving, hilarious, warrior spirit to contribute to help him and his family financially. My hope is that through financial help from all of us, Scott can focus fully on this arduous, tiresome battle. Thank you, in advance, for your help!
