Our Story

Established by local residents in 2013 because there was no cricket club or playing and training facility in a council area with over 95000 residents.

East Renfrewshire Cricket Club is a volunteer-led organisation which provides cricket playing opportunities to juniors and adults across the local authority.  We understand the benefits that sport can bring both physically and mentally and embarked on a journey to create a new club for the community and build the newest cricket ground and training facility in Scotland consisting of; a new drainage system, an 8 wicket grass square and a fully enclosed quadruple lane outdoor net facility as there was nothing for cricket in the borough. Fast forward 7 years and the committee has organically built a sustainable cricket club on the south side of Glasgow consisting of over 150 members which include 2 senior teams, 5 junior teams with over 150 members, and secured a 31-year lease for the ground.

Some of our achievements include;

•4000 + The number of volunteer hours that have gone into the club since inception
•Leading cricket delivery to 23 primary schools and 6 High Schools
•Delivering circa 190 + schools cricket coaching sessions per annum
•120 hours of community coaching annually (summertime)
•Provide our ground for Interschool hardball matches, school sports days, ERC Active schools activities, cross country track - No charge
•Hosted 4 regional qualifiers for East Renfrewshire Primary schools to participate in Cricket Scotland National Primary Schools cup

•Organised and hosted a number of kwik cricket festivals annually (average participants 50)
•Created super six indoor inter-school cricket league (Eastwood High School)
•Secured indoor facility at Barrhead, Foundry for winter training. Oct to April 4 hours a week
•Organised 2-day cricket festival for ERC schools with over 100 participants attending each day
•Woodfarm grounds maintained by ERC volunteers which include grass cutting, weeding, rubbish collection.
•Led volunteer programme for club to help with cricket delivery
•58 - The number of qualifications that coaches have gained i.e. UKCC level I, II, first aid, safeguarding and protecting children, in safe hands qualifications.
•Acquired Woodfarm Playing fields on 31-year lease 2016
•Non turf pitch laid at Woodfarm costing £10k
•Acquired triple gang mower, rotary mower, wicket mower, hand roller, mechanical roller, 2 new 20ft containers, portable batting cage
•Increased number of playing teams; 2 senior teams, 5 junior teams (U10, U11, U12, U14 and U16) all playing in Western District Cricket Union

•Staff has been recognised with accolades locally, regionally, nationally and internationally for the work they have carried out.

FUNDS NEEDED

Our Cricket Club faces severe financial implications due to the COVID19  pandemic. Lost income has placed a huge question mark over the club's ability to complete the building of their cricket nets and cover ongoing ground maintenance costs for this season.  The cost to complete our nets is £4000 and to maintain the grounds until the end of the season is £1000. Any other surplus generated will be used to support our extensive junior cricket programme for 2021.

Lost Revenue
Junior Membership - 100 junior membership inc All-Stars and Dynamos - Lost
Senior Membership - 50/70 members including new - Lost
Indoor nets income -  months of March and April - Lost
Sponsorship - Kit sponsors (travel agent) -  Lost
Fundraising activities - Bag packing, coffee mornings, training camps -Lost
Donations - have stopped this season
Pledges to complete outdoor nets - Lost

With no cricket to offer members until now and very little cricket to offer until the end of the season, Income has stopped, but the bills keep coming, with ongoing expenses, groundsman,  Insurance, petrol, diesel, and machinery maintenance.   With an estimated £10 000 loss of income in 2020, the future of the club and it's ability to complete the construction of the net facility and to provide community-based cricket activities in the future is very uncertain.  Effectively, the success of the Summer months gets the club through the winter, but the likelihood of no meaningful cricket this season means that there will be no tangible income for 12 months, prior to the start of the 2021 cricket season.
The Club has already undertaken a number of measures to cut outgoings and is working with our key suppliers and stakeholders.

This appeal will help the Club ensure that we firstly complete the facility which will be the newest cricket ground and training facility in Scotland.  This will serve the community and its people, the schools,  the residents, the dog walkers, the children, of East Renfrewshire for many decades to come.  Secondly, this funding will help secure the club's future to deliver year after year cricket activities throughout the local authority.

We understand that times are very different and very difficult but are hopeful that our members, supporters, and friends of Cricket and East Renfrewshire Cricket Club recognise the importance of this appeal.

 Yours Sincerely

All at East Renfrewshire Cricket Club.
