Scot Kaitanowski Fund

Many of you know that our dear friend Scot A. Kaitanowski is ill, but the cause and extent of his illness has been a bit of a mystery until now.

Scot developed digestive discomfort about six weeks ago. While medical professionals were investigating the cause of Scot’s issues, he unfortunately aspirated his stomach contents and severely damaged his lungs. Scot was at Mercy Hospital, on a breathing machine (ventilator), but awake and able to communicate by writing. After a couple weeks and a couple tries, they were able to stabilize Scot’s breathing to remove the machine.

In the process, it was discovered that the discomfort was most likely related to cancer, specifically of the pancreas. Scot was transferred to Roswell Park, which confirmed the diagnosis. Unfortunately his condition deteriorated, and Roswell has been unable to treat the cancer due to his weakened state.

Scot’s respiratory system has failed and he’s back on a ventilator. His kidneys are also failing and he is receiving dialysis. Scot has an antibiotic-resistant infection in his lungs (requiring a kind of isolation) which complicates recovery. He is heavily sedated to keep him comfortable and to allow his body time to work on healing. Scot is largely unable to communicate at all.

At moments like this, thoughts, prayers and positive energy are invaluable and appreciated beyond measure. But the urge to help and reach out in some way is often even stronger. While visiting just isn’t possible because of Scot’s condition, there is a way to make a difference by making a contribution toward his mounting expenses.

Scot is a talented graphic designer, accomplished actor, passionate animal advocate, and most importantly a loving friend who has literally and figuratively animated our lives. Now is the time for us to reciprocate the laughter, joy and creative approach to life that Scot has shared with us for so many years.
