Scot Gimmy's Stroke Recovery & Epilepsy Diagnosis

On 10/7/21 was one of the scariest days of my life. I get a call from my husband, Scot, former employer stating that my husband wasn't acting right. Scot had slurred speech, unable to stand up straight, continuesly throwing up, facial drooping & difficulty speaking or formulating sentences. I told my husband's boss to rush my husband to the emergency room at Bethesda East. I left my work in a panic and raced to get to the emergency room. When I got there, the nurse told me that my husband is having a Ischemic Stroke. The stroke completely paralyzed my husband on his leftside. They had to airlift my husband to Marcus Neuroscience Institute in Boca to have to do an emergency Thrombectomy to remove the blood clots on his brain which caused his stroke. Thank God the thrombectomy was a success and Scot was placed in ICU for recovery. Now we are talking about a 48 year old man at the time who was completely active, surfed and skateboarded all the time to now being completely paralyzed on his leftside, not being able to go to the bathroom without assistance is a scary place to be. Scot was getting rushed out of recovery because they kept on saying " You are Young and should be able to recover very quickly". The nurse was literally shoving food down my husband's throat and I told her to stop because I could tell something was wrong. Scot was weezing and not breathing correctly. I demanded for my husband to have another X-ray done on his lungs. The doctor came back in saying that Scot aspirated in his lungs, developed pneumonia and had a Pulmonary Embolism. At the time, Scot was put in a medically induced coma for 5 days so his doctor can treat the Pulmonary Embolism and a stint was placed inside my husband to block any further blood clots to go to his brain or lungs. They also inserted a Loop Recorder which monitors his heart arrhythmia for any irregularities to prevent another stroke. My husband was in the hospital for 2 months in total and unable to complete physical therapy at Cornell towards the end of his hospital stay as more blood clots developed in his legs. Scot was paralyzed on his leftside when he left the hospital. Scot had to learn to walk, talk, eat, and relearn how to use his fine motor skills. Scot has been in physical therapy since the stroke. The survival rate of his stroke is 24.7%. Recovery from a stroke generally takes 1 year to recover but now we had another set back in June of this year. Scot had a grandma seizure. I was never so scared in my life because my husband initially had no history of seizures. My husband had a Epilepsy tests done recently and we should find out the results soon. If my husband doesn't have Epilepsy, he has a seizure disorder as a side effect from his stroke and odds are, Scot will be permanently disabled the rest of his life.

I am seeking to raise funds for my husband, Scot Gimmy, to assist with various facets of life in the coming months, specialists that are not covered with our insurance, but most importantly, all medical costs associated with his diagnosis. In addition, if Scot cannot regain use if his left hand, a mechanical arm for stroke patients that is not covered with insurance. A Myoelectric Prosthetic Arm with a realistic-looking, functioning hand might cost $20,000.00 - $30,000.00 or more. Scot still does not have use of his left hand with almost a year in physical therapy. Any amount contributed will mean the world. I greatly appreciate any support offered to help Scot with his road to recovery from his Stroke and possible Epilepsy Diagnosis.

My Family and I greatly appreciate all of the tokens, donations, thoughts and love extended to him and with a sincere heart and hope, we ask that you can help us in anyway!

Stroke will not win!!
