Hey guys, we are excited to launch our crowdfunding campaign. Initially, we were going to begin our journey with a crowdfunding campaign like most crowdfunding campaigns instead we decided to take the plunge, put the risk on our shoulders to start with and prove to you that we could build something great. We have been open for 11 months and we are the #1 dessert and/or ice cream shop in Cedar Park and Leander (according to Google, Yelp, Tripadvisor, Facebook). Many of these accolades could not have been achieved without having great customers who have been such a strong referral base. We are raising this money to pay for equipment, construction cost, startup costs, and mobile equipment. We understand that you may not be able to contribute but whether you contribute or not PLEASE share our link and get our story out. Thanks in advance for all your support
Please check out or reward levels and feel free to donate at or below any level.
Below you will find more detail answers to some questions you may have.
The video we created was geared towards more of a promotional video for our overall business but we want to take this time out to address more in detail why we are raising the money. Starting a business is very expensive. When we came up with the idea of Scoop & Score, we quickly learned this lesson when we looked at the prices of equipment, retail construction costs, commercial land, and working capital needs. We then turned to the banks for financing with a detailed business plan and over 800+ credit scores. Every bank you can think of told us no, some even questioned an “unknown” ice cream becoming that popular in the North Austin area. The consistent theme from the banks was we needed a $150,000 in profit to borrow $150,000. This is why you see so few startups and mom/pop shops. The credit crunch is REAL!
Due to the credit crunch, many startups (Carla Hall’s Southern Kitchen, Wreckfish, Rooster Soup Co., Illegal Jacks, and many more) have turned to this new popular funding source crowdfunding. As we stated in our original post most crowdfunded companies come up with an idea, share the idea and then collect funds to start the idea. We were really leery of asking our friends, family and community for funding about just an idea. Instead we decided lets take out a “few” personal loans and some additional credit cards to get the ball rolling putting the pressure on us to execute our vision. A year down we are rated the #1 dessert and ice cream shop in Cedar Park and Leander according to Yelp, Google, Facebook and TripAdvisor. In a sense we are off to a great start but there is still a ways to go to pay for our startup costs. Our startup costs are as follows construction costs $150k+, equipment costs $40K, and additional startup costs $10k, in addition to the high rent and taxes to the healthy real estate environment in the area. We will begin using the funds to purchase 5k worth of mobile equipment to fulfill some very beneficial catering engagements. The rest of the 120k will go towards the construction, equipment, and startup cost obligations.
We are working day by day to slowly eat away at this but this crowdfunding campaign has always been something we were leaning on because it has a great track record. We hope we have built something that everyone who is affiliated with Scoop and Score can be proud whether you are a customer, vendor, employee, neighbor, or just a person who stumbled upon this video. We think we are on the verge of making Scoop & Score into a local gem of the community for years to come we just need a little help getting there. Any and all donations will really help us get there and just like this post, we plan on being very transparent with how the funds are being disbursed. We have not and will not take any money out of the business until its obligations are under control. Currently any and all profits are allocated to our obligations, and our family continues to operate on a single income. We appreciate your continued support and if our goal is not met we will continue to keep our heads down, sleeves rolled up, and continue to attack this debt one day at a time. If you choose to donate or not everyone PLEASE SHARE SHARE the most successful campaigns have many shares and tend to reach their goal by having at least 1,000 – 2,000 or backers.
