Hi, my name is Ellie, and many of you know my dog Scooby. Yesterday, Scooby jumped onto my lap, and once he got down, he was unable to walk using his back legs. I took him to the emergency hospital yesterday, and based on their physical exam; he has a spinal disc injury where the disk bulges out from between the vertebrae in the spinal column. They gave him sedatives to help him rest at night, costing $291. He is constantly shivering, limping and crying. I took him to his PCP today, and they did a STAT X-ray on him and fed him food since he wouldn't eat at him, which cost another $112.They recommend that he needs to see a neurologist ASAP. When I spoke with the neurologist office today, they stated that an MRI alone costs $4,000, and since he will need immediate surgery, that will cost $9,000 (including the MRI). They said that he is highly likely to be permanently paralyzed if he doesn't get surgery as soon as possible. Since I'm a medical student, I need some assistance with the cost of Scoobys surgery.
