SCLS But Still Smiling

Always the eternal optimist with a welcoming smile and contagious laugh.  If you ask the people closest to Marj Kenney, they will all tell you just how much she's impacted their lives in a positive way.

Thoughtful.
Caring.
Supportive.
Encouraging.
Loving.
Hopeful.

Hopeful even now.

Several months ago,  Marj contracted a cough that doctors thought was just a persistent bout of bronchitis.  When she didn't get better after several rounds of antibiotics and inhalers, x-rays were finally ordered.  The x-rays revealed a mass on Marj's left lung and the subsequent biopsy left us all in shock - SCLC.

Small Cell Lung Cancer.  This form of lung cancer is very aggressive and fast moving. It struck hard and it struck fast. In a matter of only weeks, Marj was so weak, it took her an hour to get up off a chair and another half hour to crawl to the phone to call 911.  To say she was weak would be an understatement.

She has been in the hospital since the end of June when doctors discovered the cancer was not only inoperable, but had spread to her liver.  Marj is currently undergoing Cisplatin chemo, a very strong and  aggressive chemotherapy which has equally intense side effects.  Her closest friends are trying to help get her some proven holistic treatments to work in conjunction with the chemo.

Marj has been a loyal bookkeeper to a select group of entrepreneurs for many years in the Phoenix suburbs. Being self-employed has been great for her, but also has it's drawbacks - no sick leave, no vacation pay and if unable to work, no income.  Hit with that reality is overwhelming at any time, but especially after being given her devastating diagnosis.

Marj has always been supportive to friends and family. She has helped care for sick friends suffering from liver disease, depression, the flu and worse.  Being on the receiving end is foreign for Marj, so a few of us are asking for her.

Costly medical treatments and ongoing living expenses are something someone who is this sick and fighting for her life should not have to be concerned with.  A donation in any amount will help Marj cover these necessities and would be so greatly appreciated.

Thank you for your kindness and generosity.
