Hi,
Firstly, Thank you for reading.
I am Caroline, to some of you who don't know me i am the creator of Mada collective, www.madacollective.com.au based in Lennox head, Australia.
I will be heading back to Madagascar in April/May 2026, this is meaningful for me not only because i get to create and share incredible moments with my Artisans but also because on the journey and project i attend to do.
This year instead of heading Southwest to help Vezo children I am heading further South, if you remember back during covid time, we made a difference during the Famine with Talike Gelle help, https://madacollective.com.au/charity/help-children-in-sw-madagascar-during-covid19/
I will be heading there in The Androy, where Talike will meet me to start the Journey.
Talike Gelle is from the Androy region more specifically Amboasary, she is not only an Angel but a true Artist, one of the most beautiful and recognized voice in Madagascar.
Faced with the realities of the country that she saw while growing up; extreme poverty, the obvious vulnerability of women and children, chronic malnutrition, the very low literacy rate, etc... she always desired to change 'things'. She knows more than anyone that every positive action can alleviate hardships and be beneficial, given how desperate the situation is for the Tandroy tribe (meaning 'People of the thorns') in the Androy region.
The Androy is an "extreme" region located at the southernmost tip of the island, characterized by arid climate, scarce water resources, and isolation. Difficult climatic and agro-ecological conditions, combined with fragile production systems (focused on cattle raising and the cultivation of maize and tubers), make it one of the poorest areas of the country, where food vulnerability is part of daily life. The isolation of the region results from the poor condition of the roads that connect the region to the rest of the island.
The projet i endeavor to do with Talike is based in the village called Ankilemiavotse, located about + 40 km from Ambovombe.
No transport is available from Ambovombe, the only way to travel to the village is by foot or via charette (Zebu cart)
This is a very isolated village where The Tandroy people live of what they have, they have nothing but each other's.
Mrs Sylviane VOROKOVAE has been dedicated teaching the children of her village and the surrounding villages 'under a tree' as the nearest remote school is over 10kms by foot.
120 children attend Mrs Sylviane's classes today.
Talike has been helping the past 2 years by providing the children with: chalkboards, notebooks, pens, pencils, a blackboard... and drinkable water during the lessons.
You may think, Education in remote and complex environments like this is quite marginal, but i believe strongly we can only break the poverty cycle through education!
To prevent these children from the harsh sun &/or cyclones, they need a classroom, benches, seats...
Ankilemiavotse needs a helping hand.
Let's help them!
We have done a quote to make this project become reality.
A total cost of MGA 20,585.000 which convert to AUD 6,500. (see attached photos).
We have collected from a donor in Europe just under 800 EUROS already.
A team of workers from Amboasary are ready to come help build with a truck to transport materials. These workers will be staying in the village until the classroom is completed.
Helping such isolated places requires a lot of dedication, Talike has dedicated her life to help her region and i want to support them, WE DO!!?
I am leaving Australia April 12th and will be travelling to the South around the 23rd of April from Antananarivo. As you can imagine the organization to get this project underway involves a lot planning.
Ideally starting to get the ball rolling mid-March will make it a lot easier for me.
I cannot do this without your donations and support.
PLEASE any amount you can forward will bring us closer to our goal, every dollar count!! I understand how tough it is for us all to keep up with the cost of living rising up constantly, but A dollar goes a long way for the Tandroy people!!!!!!
I appreciate you ALL to participate!
Let's bring some comfort & care to many of The Tandroy children totally isolated from the world so they can have a classroom to learn.
In the hope to send you a picture of the school of Ankilemiavotse soon...
Friends & family & everyone PLEASE SHARE!
Big Love & Blessings,
Caroline
