Below is a photo of students at the public school we volunteer at in Honduras. Only about 10 of these 39 children will go on past the 6th grade, and most of them will take 9 years to even reach the 6th grade due to missing school in order to earn money for their families who make on average of $1,200 a year.

Our dream at the Tobias Vega Project is to one day help completely overhaul a broken educational system in Central America. And, while we begin to dive into this important work which can take years, together we can help these beautiful, young lives feel valued and important right now.
Tobias Vega Project for Central American Schools is dedicated to Tobias Vega who passed away unexpectedly in 2020. His dedication and passion to help these children and teachers inspires our work each day. Tobias was a magician, social justice advocate wanderlust with a huge, generous heart who lived humbly and gave generously. We miss you, and love you Toby.

For over four years, we have traveled and supported public schools in Guatemala and Honduras. Months before arriving, we connect with a public school identified by our partnership with local fire departments through Firefighters Without Borders. We spend many hours on the phone building relationships with the teachers before our arrival. They share their school supplies wish list with us, and we raise funds to purchase the supplies. The supplies are then sent via truck directly to the school. We arrive in the country shortly thereafter, and begin the process of school supplies distribution, academic and teaching assessment, and program implementation.

Imagine a room filled with teachers (who use their own wages to buy school supplies ) opening a giant box filled with calculators, pens, crayons, pencils, erasures, scissors and more...needless to say the room is instantly filled with joy, tears and excitement.

Also, imagine the children outside during recess on a hot, humid day with no toys, monkey bars, swings or slides - no play equipment except for a few used tires and empty plastic bottles. We bring these children frisbees, jump ropes, balls and other play equipment too!

In spring 2022, we will travel to Honduras once again where we will teach, conduct professional trainings, and deliver school supplies to a school in Copan Ruinas. We are hoping to raise enough money to provide enough school supplies for all 740 children.
We know there are so many opportunities to give, and we understand if you have already shared your hard-earned money helping other efforts, however if you feel called to help this particular mission, the children, teachers and we would be beyond grateful for your kindness and generosity.
Thank you for sharing any amount that you are able to!
All of the money earned goes 100% into purchasing of the school supplies and shipping - our team pays for our own airfare, lodging and food.

This mission wouldn't be possible without Firefighters Without Borders, California. Thank you to all of the firefighters who have dedicated their time and resources to bring equipment to the under-served fire departments in Central and South America ,and train their personnel. You are brave, strong and full of selfless love!
