A wise friend told me that when I am raising money for a cause I believe in, I am not asking for money for myself but I am asking for money for people who do not have a voice. Today I am asking for the Maya children of the highlands of Guatemala.
The pandemic has impacted all of us financially and I know we are all trying to keep our own financial security while helping our family and personal friends. Today I am asking you to reach outside that circle and if possible, make a financial contribution.
BECA, [Bridging Education Costs for All] We have started in Guatemala and in 2020 funded 67 students in addition to assisting several elementary schools with supplies and equipment. We recruit sponsors and have found it costs $200 for elementary, $350 for junior high, and $600 for high school per year per student. Post high school programs usually cost between $600 and $1500 annually.
In addition we need donations of any amount to pay for unexpected costs such as outgrown shoes and uniforms, school assessments, and school events. This year we have needed to help families with food, medical care, and basic necessities due to the pandemic financial crisis.
You would be surprised at how much good even the smallest donation can accomplish.
