We are the Midnimo Education Project, a 501c3 nonprofit dedicated to preventing and mitigating Female Genital Mutilation/Cutting (FGM/C) through educative and legislative measures. We are hoping to raise money to increase the medical interpreter network in California. Currently, California has only 738 certified medical interpreters, with very few Arabic speaking interpreters. Efforts to increase the number of medical interpreters in California will help prevent communication barriers that could endanger those at risk for FGM/C or those seeking treatment for FGM/C. Thus, we plan on offering scholarships for medical interpreter courses and certification tests (which can be fiscally inaccessible) to reach a goal of 1000 certified medical translators in California by November 2025.
