Steven W. Valavanis of Cocoa, Florida passed away of natural causes at the age of 90 on May 5, 2017. He was a WW II Navy vet on the USS Leyte ship where he was known as the "best boxer and Greek translator". Born in Braddock, PA, where he attended Greek and American school, Steven then went on to marry his late wife Dell. They had two children, Jason and April. Steven recieved his masters degree in Political Science from Rollins College and after teaching at Cocoa High School in the mid 1960's , he then began a 30 year teaching career at BCC, now known as EFSC. He also lobbied and successfully helped implement the Brevard County Federation of Teacher's Union. Steven also was a Rockledge City councilman. This Gofundme is set up and approved through EFSC to raise 25k for an endowed scholarship fund in Steven Valavanis' name. We would like to reach 25k to be able to continue scholarships in his name forever at EFSC for future students. Steven greatly impacted the lives of many students and law enforcment over the past few decades in Brevard County. An obituary will be published in the Florida Today in the coming days and a service is being planned with details to follow. Please donate if you can, it will be much appreciated and used solely for students' college education at EFSC in memory of Professor, Steven Valavanis. Thank you.
