Scholarship Fund in Memory of Rev. Daniel Barros

Rev. Daniel David Brazão Barros of Brockton passed away peacefully on Tuesday, June 22, 2021, surrounded by his family and loved ones.

He is the beloved husband of Maria Luiza (Milú) Barros and the devoted father of Helena de Barros Vieira and her husband Carlos Vieira, Soraya de Barros Monteiro and her husband Rev. Benedito Monteiro, Jorge Daniel de Barros and his wife Marlene Fitas, and Rosa Lima Evanoff and her husband William Evanoff. Loving grandfather of Stéphanye de Barros Lima Duffey, Débora De Barros Lima, Daniel Luís de Barros Andrade, Lois Evanoff, and Jacob Evanoff.

Daniel Barros was in Portugal serving as a pilot in the Portuguese Air Force when he was called to return to his homeland and attend the Nazarene Seminary in order to become a pastor, following his father’s footsteps.

He was an active pastor in the Church of the Nazarene for 45 years. He pastored several congregations in Cape Verde (Tarrafal, Vila da Ribeira Brava, Fajã, Praia Branca, and Praia) from 1968 - 1991.  In 1991, he and his family moved to the Azores Islands, Portugal, where he was the pastor of the church in Ponta Delgada and the superintendent of the Church of the Nazarene on the islands.  He was also the superintendent of the Southern District of Portugal for two years.  In 2014, he moved to Brockton, MA where he attended and actively participated in the Nova Aliança Church of the Nazarene.

Rev. Barros was recognized as a man of faith and respected by all who knew him.  While pastoring the different churches, among many great things that he did and was involved with, Rev. Barros had a very active social role and selflessly invested of himself in the youth.  Besides having a strong faith and having a strong desire for everyone to know Jesus as their savior, he believed in the power of sports, culture, and education.  He believed that social structures had to be constructed and that infrastructures had to facilitate the physical, emotional, and psychological development of the youth.

Therefore, and recognizing the selfless contributions of Rev. Daniel Barros in terms of faith, culture, sports, and education in the islands of Cape Verde, in Portugal and in Brockton, MA, we would like to ask that in lieu of flowers, that donations be made in his memory to establish a scholarship fund, which will be managed by the Nova Aliança Church of the Nazarene.  This scholarship will be awarded to one or more college students currently attending the Nova Aliança Church to support them as they pursue their education for the enhancement of others.

We thank you for your support, contribution and prayers during this very difficult time.

With love,

The de Barros Family
