Attending a four-year college, let alone a historically black college or university was a dream I was afraid to dream, then on February 26, 2022, my wildest dream came true. I attended the Black College Expo in Oakland, CA, and was accepted into Jackson State University in Mississippi as a biology major. There are no words to describe the sense of pride that I felt. I could finally express my dreams out loud. I have had to work hard continuing to strive toward outcomes that others take for granted. I take nothing for granted. I have dreamed of becoming a part of the health care community all my life. I kept my dreams small and private, afraid to let myself down. Over the years, my confidence has grown and I know that I can do great things with my life. Being accepted to Jackson State has opened up a world of possibilities! Now, becoming a registered nurse, a nurse practitioner, a physician’s assistant or even a physician are within my reach.

 

I will continue to work hard to save money to make my dream of attending Jackson State a reality. I will need help to realize my dream. I have received $10,000 in financial aid consisting of loans and grants, that will cover my tuition. To go to Jackson State, I have to live in the dorms my freshman year. The room and board fees are an additional $10,000. I will need approximately an additional $1,000 for books, materials, and the cost of transportation to and from school. I am hoping that you will read my story and support my journey toward higher education and a bright future.
