Hello,
My name is Margarita. While I was doing my field research in rural Colombia, South America (my home country), I had the opportunity to meet Alejandro. His dream is to be an engineer, but because of the conflict context and lack of opportunities, there was a huge gap between him and the university. However, he persisted, passed to the university, and got some funding from the university due to his conflict victim condition. Today, Alejandro is studying, but he needs money for food, shelter, school books, and personal expenses for the next 4 years.
I’m helping him raise money because I believe that access to education is the most powerful and efficient mechanism for social mobilization. Moreover, I’ve seen Alejandro thrive in complex family and community situations. Finally, I think we all deserve a little help to make our dreams come true.
My family and friends raised money last year to support his first year at the university. This year, we are looking for alternatives to ensure he has the money to finish his education.
All the funds will go to him and his education.

Update (August 27th,2024)
I had the opportunity to visit Alejo in Colombia a couple of days ago. We talked about the classes, his professors, and his new life in a big city. He said it’s been challenging for him, but he is doing the best he can to overcome all the hardships. During the summer, he went back to his village and organized a talk with the students from his high school. He shared his experience and valuable links about how to pick a degree, potential scholarships, and resources. He also got a part-time job to save money and support his brother.
He’s ready to start his next term at the University.
Update September 2025
A new academic year has started, and Alejo is ready to dive in!
Over the past year, he has worked hard on his studies and has now started practical work in the lab—where he feels truly at home, like a fish in water. In the photo, you can see him with one of his professors, learning more about circuits.
Alejo is passionate about his career and is determined to succeed. He is also working part-time to support himself, but your help can make a big difference.
If, like me, you believe in the power of education, please consider supporting Alejo’s journey. A contribution of $10 or $20 can go a long way in helping him continue his studies and achieve his dreams.
Thank you so much for your generosity and belief in his future!
