Schmidt Equipment is Out of Service
On Friday, June 11, Dave Schmidt was taken to Coquille Hospital, and then on to Bay Area Hospital for chest pain. At Bay Area they performed an angiogram, and decided to transfer him to RiverBend.Once at RiverBend, he was told that he definitely had a small heart attack.
Dave is currently in the Cardiac Surgery Unit, awaiting open heart surgery. They will be performing a Quadruple Bypass on Monday, June 14. After extensive vein mapping, the cardiac team has determined that he is a good candidate to harvest arteries from his arm, legs, and chest, for the bypass.
Due to the severity of the procedure, Dave will have a long road to recovery. After surgery he will be in the ICU until stabilized. The surgeon has said that he will not be able to work for several months and will not be able drive for at least 4-6 weeks. For those of you that know Dave, losing his freedom to get up and go will be hard on him. He's in very good spirits considering & still being his smart ass self. ❤️
There's been a ton of people reaching out, wanting to help. At this time, we don’t know what the total of the medical bills will be, but we know it will be expensive. Also, since this is peak Hay season, this will definitely be a setback for his business: Schmidt Equipment, as well as all the other activities that he is actively involved in such as officiating, driving ambulance and responding to fires.
We will continue to update this page as time goes on. Thank you all in advance… anything will help alleviate some of the financial burden and stress that he will be facing.
